Welcome to my homepage!

I am Jutta Urpilainen, a teacher and politician from Ostrobothnia.

Politics and political activism have been my passion ever since my youth. I have been involved in many political and organisational positions - particularly with education and health care organisations.

I am also actively involved with international affairs, and am currently chairperson of the Finnish UN Association.

In the 1996 municipal elections I was elected as a deputy councillor for Kokkola city at the age of 21. Four years later I was elected as a full

Councilor. I also took on the role of Vice Chairman for the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Central Ostrobothnia .

The 2003 parliamentary election was the first time I stood a candidate for parliament, and I was elected as the first female MP to represent the Central Ostrobothnia region. Within the Finnish Parliament, I am currently a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In June 2008, I was elected as chairperson of the SDP. In addition I continue to represent the Vaasa constituency as an MP and the town of Kokkola as Councillor.

In my spare time I enjoy being with my friends and family. My family consists of my husband Juha Mustonen and my parents and siblings. I am an older sister to three siblings - Ville, Jenni and Anni. In addition, I am godmother to six children - Melinda, Thomas, Isabella, Jonna, Valo and Martti. We are also sponsoring a godchild from Kenya

with my husband. In my spare time I like to read, cook and do different sports. As a musical hobby I continue to play in the Parliament’s band as a keyboardist and vocalist.
